VOLUNTEERS

Last season, the pressure of organising youth cricket coaching and matches fell on the faithful few. We still need help with transport, umpiring and scoring to continue providing the players with matches. Please help us to provide cricket for your children. If you can offer some assistance please contact Mrs Liz Taylor [Tel: 01872 241479].

SAFETY

Safety guidelines were introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board in 1999, which included the following:-

bullet

It is recommended that a helmet is worn by young players when batting and when standing up to the stumps when keeping wicket against a hard cricket ball in matches and practice.

bullet

Players should regard a helmet with a faceguard as a normal item of protective equipment when batting against a hard ball, together with pads, gloves and for boys, an abdominal protector (box).

bullet

There is a Bitish Standard [BS7928:1998] for cricket helmets and it is in the best interest of players to ensure that their helmet conforms to this standard.

Truro Cricket Club state that all players under the age of 17, playing in the Cornwall Youth Cricket League WILL wear a helmet when batting and when standing up to the stumps when wicket keeping, in youth matches and practice.

The Club also state that all young criketers under the age of 18 years, playing senior cicket in the Cornwall Cricket League, will comply with the above decision, with the additional requirement of wearing a helmet when fielding within 6 yards of the bat, except behind the wicket on the offside.

All helmets worn must comply with the British Standard Institution Certification. To this end, the Club purchased a number of helmets of various sizes. A copy of the ECB guidelines is available at the clubhouse. These guidelines have been implemented for the safety and enjoyment of all concerned.
